Did anybody watch the 'Mafia's Secret Bunkers' programme last night? Forget the Cosa Nostra, hollywood style mobsters, the 'Ndrangheta are some proper nasty, old school mafia types from Calabria. Their organisation is said to control assets worth 30billion euros, or approx 3percent of the entire Italian economy. Think it should be on the bbc.iplayer thingymajig, it's well worth a watch, some of the stuff would be too far fetched for the movies, except this s**t is for real. * +

These are proper, underground mafia though beatz, literally. Ultra traditional and ultra secretive, no flashy wiseguys in Armani suits on display here. Totally ingrained in Calabrian society, the entire local council was expelled from the italian governmental system over it's links to organised crime. Basically the 'ndrangheta own the council. * +

i remember this elderly Calabrian guy here just about beheaded his wife cos she started doing tafe courses or something.. he was ashamed because she wasn't staying at home being a good domestic slave. * +

They have branches in australia shadow. Also canada, united states, germany and many more. They've even worked with the Los Zetos, as mentioned in the 'cartel beheadings' topic, in mexico. * +

no juice proper mafia is sicilian, the word 'mafia' means family in Italian I believe. Anyway, thanks for reminding me about this obi I'll watch it on Iplayer today. * +
