In contrast orange launched the first video phone to the uk market in 2001. It was a gsm only device that was said to be capable of video calling over the orange hscsd network. It was a windows based smartphone that sold for 1 thousand three hundred pounds sterling with a contract. Even if you had the dosh to buy one it was unlikely you would find anyone you could make a video call too! * +

The price wasnt the only downfall for this phone, as far as I know the video calling didnt actually work despite the fact it was on sale in the orange shops for at least a few months. Orange eventually withdrew the product classifying it as a miserable failure. * +

I think it was a windows CE device but it has to be said that if you wanna make video calls you really need 3g! And someone else to call. In 2001 most handsets didnt even have colour screens let alone video calling! * +

Not to mention the fact that hscsd data was only available on orange at the time. This is what happens when you release a product thats too far ahead of its time. *
