there are things that can only be achieved with root access on your fone.. if you like the idea of modifying your fone, deleting unwanted apps etc, rooting will be essential for you.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2143479 * +

Add free, sixaxis for ps3 bluetooth, Titanium Backup and directory bind is all I use root for. Used to use custom roms but to be honest none were better or faster or had better battery than the stock 4.2.1 jellybean * +

think I'll have mess around with this on my Note 2... its my first main Android phone... was mainly on Blackberrys (well on both platforms now) and I use to be bit handy at all the customizing stuff on Symbians n Nokias etc... I'll have a read of the site... hope its easy... lol... * +

ok... rooted my Note 2 with no problems or issues... I followed the picture guide in that link as I'm not great with PC or laptops but its done, in case anyone else does this I found the Samsung Driver installing part taking quite a while... thanks for link 3mel * +
