it's possible to tell when it's being used and what mobile number is trying to use it. but nobody bothers. it would cost a lot more in man hours to try than the fone is ever going to be worth.. sorry * +

I remember reading about software called 'plan b' that was free from Play Store. would allow you to login from a computer with your account and remotely install it provided your phone still had an internet connection. it would take a picture from the front facing camera if someone put in an incorrect code, and send GPS location to an email address of yours all in the background * +

here is how they catch the theives, the imei number of your phone gets stored in any SIM thats currently in the phone and hence the cops now track the imei number and they can find the phone number of the sim inside the stolen phone and voila! it's the thief's number *
