yes vlc is available on playstore for free, and it is much better at 1080p playback than mxplayer. and supports more formats than the usually decent default players. * +

as far as converters go, vidcon is about it. sometimes it does a decent job. most of the time you'll delete the results (even when just using it to trim a clip from a video keeping all the settings as default). to do a h.264 conversion can take days, annihilates your battery too.. * +
