on my fone, having that ticked or not doesn't effect the muting options. test the vibrate styles (under ringtones) just to make sure yours are working.. * +

check whether vibration is working or not first. in sound settings see if the phone vibrates when setting vibration patterns. if it doesnt then i think its bug*ered *
