After the revelation that LG's flagship G2 has flopped by missing even modest expectations of 3million in its launch quarter BGR has put together a concerning article about LG and HTC, both of who are struggling in the smartphone market. ' The context here is that Samsung shipped 10 million units of its latest Galaxy S model in just one month , vaulting to 20 million units in two months. Samsung is now in the position where it is outselling what was once its close rival by more than 10 to one during their respective flagship smartphone launch quarters. What makes LGs fumble so scary is the fact that it is reported to have spent 200 billion won on marketing its mobile products in the G2s launch quarter.' http://is.gd/pd8Ea5 * +

'After the massive failures of HTC and LGs most recent high-end devices we now know that doing a huge, but not gigantic advertising push is not enough. These companies cannot afford Samsung-sized marketing spends. The only possible route to viability in the non-Sampple market now lies in the aggressive low-end strategy, which Nokia/Microsoft is now trying to execute. That requires a long period possibly years of selling budget phones at a loss until a volume base sufficient for profitability is reached. Which in turn requires piles of money of Microsoft magnitude to work if it ever will work. It now looks as though LG and HTC have nowhere to turn there is no way out of the box they now find themselves in.' (dislike) oh dear. * +

(aww) Samsung is making an average of +7.5billion USD in profit per quarter now, and their chip foundries are raking it in (grin), how much is little LG making? Oh wait, they are barely making any money.
Oh and by the way making a Nexus doesn't guarantee much, Nexus devices sell in VERY LOW volumes, Htc made the 1st Nexus, look at them now. Making a Nexus means nothing really. * +

Nobody is trying to convince you to take anything over your G2 (lol). Let's look at the numbers though, LG's Q3 numbers were very disappointing, they made a loss in mobile and their TV business continues in its downward spiral: http://is.gd/C3Wpos those numbers show a company getting into trouble actually, let's hope the holiday quarter will be better, eh? no doubt the reason why LG are pulling out of the phone market a bit as you said on another post. LG will survive as a company cos they have their fingers in more than one pie, but HTC is another matter. either way the loss of two major smartphone producers is not good news for the consumer because it restricts the alternatives. Competition is allways a good thing because it forces companies like samsung to keep improving. * +

with no major competiton within the android market there is less incentive to improve the product. This is not good in my eyes. While the loss of LG high end phones may not have a dramatic impact The loss of HTC will because of the numbers they produce when compared to LG. Competition is allways a good thing. * +
