Oh dear, have you tried clearing Cache and Dalvik Cache in Recovery? Also, did you do a format after updating to KitKat? I think that helps a lot with odd little issues like that. * +

The S5 Prime and Note 4 are nearing (wink). Very strange issue there with your G2, sounds like it may be time to Root and throw in a Custom ROM like CM11. * +
