greenify because it actually does something that you couldn't do with common sense, other battery saving apps are nonsense not worth bothering with. * +

for the more advanced user with root access the disable process app is excellent too. * +

(noo) most battery saving apps just shut down apps that the system then goes and opens up again one minute later.
it's not worth having an extra app running that causes the system to spend more juice reopening apps.
your memory is the best tool for power saving. turn down screen brightness when indoors, turn off data when not using it, put phone into 2g mode when only waiting for calls and texts and put into airplane mode at night when you're just using it for the alarm... * +

another kinda indirect option is opera Max vpn. it gives you the option to decide which apps have access to the network thus cutting down background battery drain. it doesn't need root either (hurray)
also any built in apps that you don't use ever can be disabled from the settings menu so they don't eat up juice in the background. apps that you've installed but never use should be deleted... * +

You do not need a battery saver app. Turn screen brightness down to around 30-35 percent, go into Power Save in Settings -Power Saving Mode -Restrict Performance -select CPU Performance (only tick CPU Performance, untick the others). You should be fine after that. This phone gives great battery performance but Lollipop has somewhat ruined that for some people depending on region and FW. * +

My Kyocera Hydro Icon has a couple of battery saving apps built in. One is Eco Mode, economy, which helps a lot. Another one is Maximizer which blocks background apps that haven't been used in over a week.
Sorry guys, Eco Mode is only available on newer Kyocera phones. I think Maximizer is an Android function that showed up after ICS. * +
