Even the providers did nothing, it still wudn't be open, as in, truly open. On the other hand, Android being open does not matter, only a handful of users root their devices in the long run. Btw, while Maemo is totally Open, will the same happen with Meego? Time will tell * +

As far as I know meego will be more open than maemo. N900 is a little bit closed in case of some hardware drivers (gsm parts, cameras may be). Maybe first maemo device will be more open in this case as well. BTW the topic is Android apps, its not a topic to debate about oven vs close, what's good what's not! * +
