Yes you can always nandroid backup, should do this always before you put a new rom on. if it goes wrong all you do is restore nandroid. and titanium backup works like a charm.. tested :D . to be fair, nothing much diff with gingerbread apart from slightly faster.. if you want proper user experience wait for htc to release new sense with gingerbread.. * +

if you have HD, check leedroid HD rom.... he has HD aswel and makes rom for that phone too. :) *
