Why is it so expensive to service a car ? I just paid R1400 for what tey call a oil change service, that includes changing oil, oil filter, seal and aircon filter.Make and model of car is VW Polo Classic * +

U hav to remember r33p3r that no manufacturer does just an oil change on a car. If u take ur service scedule ul see that thers much more to an A.service than just d oil change. Thers lotsa inspection work that goes wit d service.. Fo instance checkin d brakes condition, handbrake, al external lights, abnormal tyre wear, abnormal play in suspention components, cv rubberboots nd gearbox oil level.. * +

As u can imagine al dis stuff takes tym wich in turn is charged for. So u doesnt realy pay that much fo oil n filter as u do pay for labour. Also remember that vw recently changed ther oil on al vehicle to a expensive full synthetic costin round R120 per litre. * +

The solution is service your own car, im a qualified vw mechanic and small services are not hard, but the previous poster is right about there being alot of inspection work * +

Haha. My friend sent in his corsa for a service, they charged him 2 and half hours for the actual oil change. He didnt think it wrong so i told him we should go to gm. Got there, asked them if i could see the that took 2 and a half hours to change the oil, they didnt want to say who serviced the car so they gave him 200bucks back. Still would like to see who the idiot is. * +

Wel zphania, d manufacturer prescribes d labourtime nd service scedules to d dealership. If u hav any reason to suspect that d dealer did not inspect d vehicle as supose to, u hav d ryt to report them to d manufacturer customer care service. At landrover we were gettin fine if a customer had any complain even if d customers complaint wer ungrounded! Its cald war against poor service. * +

A reputable garage should supply you with a service check sheet and advise you of wear and tear of serviceable parts, always keep any paperwork you get for future refrnce, * +
