could be bad connection at either end of the aerial coax. and make sure that both aerial and radio have a good earth to the car body. * +

Some stereo's just hav cr*p tuners, i hav always found alpine's radios lackin a bit... U can buy antenna signal boosters pretty cheap from most accessory shops. * +

Most radios have got a variable aerial trimmer. Try adjusting that to get better reception. *
