My radiatior fan used to kick in only in very hot conditions or when I've driven the car for a very long time. Now it kicking in when I start the car and won't go off, even in cold wheather! Is it a coolant problem? Water level is ok! * +

no..ya thermal sensor switch is spoilt n gone short circuit....normally its located at the bottom of the radiator with one wire comin out...just change that..problem solved i suppose.. * +

Ok thanks, will have a look. Actually the problem started like 3 days ago when the guy at the garage top up the water. May be it's just coincidence. * +

Yup, it def sounds like radiator switch has gone, it's designed to kick in once coolant hits a certain temp, then once it brings temp down to right temp, switches off. But it doesn't really matter, as long as cuts in:) if didn't u would have issues. As thermostat in engine opens once hits a set temp, to allow flow to rad,then closes once lower temp achieved.so fan being on makes no difference :) * +

What car is it,vw's got another switch on manifold that causes fan to randomly switch on after car is switched off,but sounds like you hav another kind car,does the fan come on after starting car or with just ignition on. * +

Thanks Guys, it's a bmw e90. In the morning, when I start the car for the first time, the fan goes on after like 5min the engine is on. Then the rest of the day it will be going on same time as I start the car. No, the ignition doesn't switch the fan on. * +
