I have CBZ 160cc bike. whenever i get down from the flyover i hold the clutch and let the bike roll to save petrol. i want to ask will this have any negative effects on my engine or any clutch wearout. * +

Why not just put it in top gear and coast? * +

Coasting in gear can reduce fuel consumption because the inertial speed means the engine does not need fuel to continue revolutions. Coasting with the engine actually idling means the engine needs to use fuel to keep running. Think about it.....you also have poorer control * +

Very dangerous stunt ur pulling ther mate, coasting in 4th or 5th much safer. * +

It does affect ur clutch etc. When u put it in gear, ur engine is on idle then jumps up to a couple thousand revs dependn on what speed n which gear, on a car the clutch wud make ur flywheel hot, shiney and slipery, constantly doing dis wud mean ur flywheel n clutch wud get warn out. A costly thng especially if u have a dual ma55 flywheel. * +

The heat on ur flywheel could result in a shudder on ur clutch due to ur flywheel getn warpd frm the excessive expansion n contraction or a shudder on ur engine especially if dual ma55 function ceases. * +

U could coast without much wear n tare, but ud hav to get ur engine to match the revs u wud be doing at that speed and gear u wud be in before u put it into gear. Cant guarantee u tho. * +

you could coast but have to drop through the gears whilst doing so as what happens if you need to accelerate to avoid a hazard!! * +
