mine cut out tonight dropping off a mate, i left the engine running, battery seemed fine but got another mate to pop up with some leads and Tbar, started ok, switched it off after 5mins to try restarted and it wouldn't, so tried to jump start again, finally jumped, drove to my front gates went to open and the car stalled again, pushed into drive, left for 10 mins started her again, ran for 5mins then it cut out...not a judder stop either... * +

im clueless apart from the Idle air control valve been carbon up? but no idea where one is on the mk4 1.6s? any tips or ideas would be appreciated thanks. * +

Any fault codes? Could b the mass air flow meter or ignition coil pack, unplug the maf lead which is in between the air filter and the throttle body,if the car runs and does not cut out u know its the maf, use the paper clip trick to read any fault codes * +

Idle speed control stepper motor is on the side of the throttle body * +

If it is the maf don't just clean it,buy a genuine oe brand new one not a cheap aftermarket one,I bought a cheap one and it lasted exactly a month before I was back to square one,if u do change the maf u have to take it for a drive so the ecu learns the new values * +

If the revs go up and down that indicates a clogged idle control valve,don't take it to a garage,it's simply a process of elimination * +

Ur lucky if u have to change the idle control motor,it simply unbolts from the tb,on my 1.8 u have to change the whole tb!! * +

If it is the maf u can leave it unplugged and drive it until u replace it,the car goes into limp home mode and uses default settings * +
