Crytek founder Cevat Yerli has stated that it is impossible for PS4 and Xbox 720 to match the clout of gaming PCs in a new interview. He also confirmed that he is currently under NDA at both Sony and Microsoft on both of their incoming next-gen consoles. Despite his non-disclosure agreements, Yerli told Eurogamer that these new console rigs simply cant compete with high-spec gaming PCs. * +

Without breaking NDAs that are in place, Yerli cautioned, realistically, from purely a price point perspective, it is impossible. Its impossible to package 2000-3000 into a mainstream, lets say 500 console. Im not saying they are 500 consoles. They may launch a console at 2000, but the consumer pricing is usually much lower than that. So, given consumer pricing, and given the cost of production of a gamer PC and the amount of watt of power it needs, which is like a fridge, * +

its impossible. Crytek has recently spoken out about next-gen launch titles, stating that they wont look as good as current high-spec PC games. * +

Well I think what he is saying is that PC hardware is already a lot better than what will be put in next gen consoles, and he would know. So I guess that leaves it down to how optimised the games are. I expect developers will be concentrating more on consoles soon after release, so then yeah, PC graphics might not be much better, or at all better. A PC only title would most likely look better. * +

Tbh i think graphic tech is at a point now where it doesn't matter, aslong as the game quality and not much glitches etc are in games, think people will be happy, its not like from a megadrive to current graphics jump. So depends what extras are avaliable with next gens, hopefully not too many daft gimics * +

The differences are new consoles will probably not be as fast as high end PC hardware by the time they launch, whereas 360 nearly was. Secondly Xbox 360 still only aimed for 1280 x 720, at a point where PCs were aiming for at least 1280 x 1024 and more. So PC needed even more performance to get that res on the quality of assets 360 used. However, if new consoles aim for 1920 x 1080, then its the same as a large amount of PC gamers, which means the advantage lies even more so with PC * +
