PC mugs dont have access to server farms like Sony's. The session would run in a VMware environment with access to hundreds of CPU's and multiple video cards dedicated to one application. Is this too expensive to Sony, one of the biggest electronics business in the world? Access to that kind of power at home would cost way more than the average person person would be willing to spend on a PC.

Wait, haven't you ever heard of a Steam Server? And guess what, there are plenty of game servers all over the world. Otherwise, Sony cannot approach having a server farm that would cover all the PC game servers all over the world. *
