Forward unto dawn was a five part mini series set just after the covenant appear. The USMC are fighting insurrectionists and the bulk of the story revolves around marines training to fight them.
If you played halo 4, you'll understand who the main character is, laskey, the captain of the ship forward unto dawn, which led the battle on the Promethean shield world.
He is only a teenager at the time and the story is basically his experience. The first few episodes are boring but the covenant invasion is pretty kick ass. They done well not to show too much. You see jackels, elites and a hunter.
Anyway, laskeys older brother was an ODST which are the toughest if the tough, the Chinese dude gets hold of some secret footage of the ODST fighting insurgents and you catch glimpses of the spartans, which are classified at the time.
Anyway,cue generic scenes and eventually the covenant invade, after a merciless slaughter the only humans left on the planet are laskey and a few others, cornered and trapped, the master chief shows up.
He looks great but sounds appalling, nothing like the game voice.
Cue a few battle scenes and a boss battle with a hunter and the survivors are rescued.
The last ten minutes are the only scenes worth watching because the music was great and it sets up the opening for halo 4
The series was given away free with the legendary edition of halo 4, it's also on Netflix.
The Marines are weedy and small, the Spartans look about 18 and the chief sounds like a c**t but it has some good scenes and music, hardc*re halo fans will enjoy it in small doses..6/10 for effort * +

And halo 4 still remains a very good addition to the series and halo 2 anniversary is all but confirmed with halo 5 beta so it's an Xbox one exclusive *
