Can the 3G be jailbroken when running fw 3.1.3 ? I'm not sure as i own the 3GS and know it can't be done for my phone....The 3G is for a mate of mine. * +

Yes. The 3G is one that can be downgraded to 3.1.2 and jailbroke. I just did mine a bit ago before I sold it. * +

Yeah-just follow instructions. Downgrading is simple, takes just a few minutes, then use blackra1n. On the 3G, its an untethered jailbreak. I don't like sn0wbreeze-never managed to get it to work for me. * +

Ok,we downgraded wiyhout problems and jailbroke using Blackra1n but now my mate has no carrier....any ideas ? * +

Did he use blackra1n to reboot after getting the 1604 error from itunes? If so, that screws carrier up. Which carrier does he have? A lot of carrier bundles are in Cydia under carrier bundles. If his isn't you need to get iRecovery, download it, bookmark instructions. * +
