There seems to be a little confusion with a couple here of jailbreaking and unlocking, so I'm going to attempt to clear it up. JAILBREAKING IS REMOVING LIMITATIONS PUT IN THE FIRMWARE BY APPLE TO RESTRICT THE USE OF SOME FEATURES. * +

UNLOCKING IS REMOVING THE SIM RSTRICTION IMPOSED BY THE CARRIER YOU GET YOUR PHONE FROM. You can use an iPhone without a jailbreak or witha jailbreak-it makes no difference. If you try to use a locked iPhone with a different sim, it won't work. * +

You can purchase a locked iPhone fairly inexpensively nowadays, whereas a factory unlocked one will cost as much as 5 times more (200 usd from a carrier vs. 1000 usd online). If I sell you a jailbroke iPhone as UNLOCKED, I've actually broken the law. Any iPhone can be jailbroke now with Spirit and anyone can do it. An unlocked iPhone with 3.1,3 only exists if its FACTORY UNLOCKED. * +

I also used Google to be positive I wasn't splitting hairs and this is what I got * Results 1 - 10 of about 150,000 for is jailbreaking unlocking same thing* Be sure thats over 150,00 results that state it IS NOT the same thing. * +

I agree with pw my iPhone 3gs is jailbreaked but not unlocked to other network I've got unlimited data with my o2 contract so I don't need to put in another carriers network but when I used blackra1n I had a option to jailbreak and unlock my phone * +

There is a big difference. I am assuming the couple that insisted that jailbreak and unlock are the same thing were simply misinformed or confused. * +

More like confused or they think they no it all I've had a iPhone since the 2g days and people no it's good but they fir some reason will say it's good I put it down to jealousy is narrow minded * +
