What does that mean exactly? Does it mean that the alarm was sounding, and has now ceased to make any noise? That would seem logical to me. But apparently it actually means that the alarm was silent and is now sounding, which to me would be an alarm going on? I think clarification of these issues of potential misinterpretation should be of paramount importance to the nation, in view of the potential of danger to the public in the event of fire etc * +
