Both are incredible but i prefer Shostakovich just because of his ability to combine really melodic motifs with really chromatic and even atonal ideas quite seamlessly...But you cant really compare these two composers as they are from completely different periods of Western music...Actually a comparison between Bach and Shostakovich may be interesting as Shostakovich was highly influenced by the work of Bach,even though its difficult to hear if that influence found its way into his music *
