I love my little pocket rocket, a 1985 Polo Sport with a modern race tuned 1.6 16v engine. Mad as a box of frogs on red bull.

But much as I like the stunning deep blue metallic colour, it doesn't suit the sporty simplicity of the car. It has rust, and floor damage, and the intention is to re-shell it in the near future.. hopefully with a body already in a more sporty colour! * +

So what car would I like, money no object..? Well, I loathe fly-by-wire. It's this simulative technology which has taken all the fun out of driving. And that means anything made in the last ten years, pretty much.

Lotus, Aston Martin, Porsche, anyone you care to mention. They've gone down the route of heavy, dull, electrically governed cars.

Caterham might just be the last to offer me the kind of responsiveness I'm accustomed to, but not with five seats.

So my car, now and for the foreseeable, cannot be beaten by anything else than another modified classic.

And I'm having serious thoughts about building a 3.2 6speed V6 Chevette. * +
