Allah was initially the moon god of the kaabah of mecca but muhammad didnt worship god of the kaabah of mecca, he worshiped the god of the kaabah of taif. The kaabah of taif was much older than the kaabah of mecca. The kaabah of mecca was insignificant to the quraish tribe of muhamad until muhamad imposed it as an exclusive place of worship for muslims. At the kaabah of taif they worshiped the arabian star family. * +

Hubol was a shrine of the kaabah representing the moon. Hubol was called 'Allah' before Venus took the title of 'Allah' from the moon. Hence the islamic symbol of the crescent moon and star. * +

When muhammad occupied mecca, he came with a verse from the quran, prohibiting his followers from making such trips between the two kaabahs in summer and winter. The quran (sura 106) compelled them only to worship at the kaabah of mecca. * +
