Most myths have an element of truth to them. This is just like finding the city of Troy. Interesting an all but thats about it. Nothing wrong with learning the origins of ancient myths, how and where they originated from. * +

its like the sodom and gomorah myth, there may be evidence of a meteor strike in that region, it obviously wasnt 'god' raining down 'fire and brimstone' * +
