ive been recently been playing with my friends N8. ive been comparing it with my old N958gb. yes symbian 3 is obviously an improvement on my version but there is one thing that puzzles me. the N8 is meant to have a better screen cos its amoled. I decided to send 7 photos off my N858gb to the N8 in order to compare the displays of both phones. and you know what? .................................... * +

after putting both phones side to side with the same photos, on every occasion the photos look brighter and more vivid on my N958gb. I havnt tried video but I suspect that may be the same. either the N958gb is about the best smartphone ever produced by nokia or they are going backwards with their screen technology. the amoled on the N8 must be the most appauling display of its type. * +

the same photos on the N8 look dim compared to tmy phone. displat brightness on both phones is at maximum. * +

Quality wise (level of detail and clearity) AMOLEDs are inferior to TFT/backlit LCDs, but in terms of contrast AMOLEDs are better, you'll find that especialy with natural pics the AMOLED wont be good, but play a game with deep colours and the AMOLED just comes alive. Wouldnt say they are moving backwards, the Symbian UI has a lot of dark and deep colours so AMOLED is fine for their phones. * +
