u can create animated gifs only with gimp.first draw frames one by one,than create a multilayered image in gimp containing all of the frames-one frame,one layer,be carefull about the order of frames though! now just choose to save the image as gif and it will give u an option to make animated gif as gif doesnt support layers,only frames.gif should but doesnt have to be converted to 256 colors * +

gif doesnt have to mean that the image is animated.there are animated gifs and plain old gif looking as any other still image.what gif does is play lots of images of the same resolution in a hyperfast slideshow giving u an impression that something is actually moving but images are only changing from one to another,so u just gotta make those images and compress tham into gif in a logical order * +

infact movies are made the same way but there are more frames and they are more complex.use the frame step command in your player very slowly.use print screen on your keyboard to capture each frame in clipboard than paste in paint and save as jpg in say,folder TEST on your desktop.save tham all in order with filenames 01,02,03,04...and than open with any image viewer that has a keyboard shortcut * +
