what exactly is wrong with server? as for recovering data from RAID5 setup... i'd suggest you to use this http://www.runtime.org/raid.htm ... you might also need some app for disk cloning.. like Norton.Ghost or Acronis.True.Image... * +

try a linux live cd to boot and put all your important data in a flash drive or portable harddisk. Its possible only if you haven't changed the default read and write permission of the partition's did ya ? . * +

Hi sonicbom this is company's data so trying a linux live cd wl be a problem coz of the company it policies.my question is if l remove the disk with the os plug it in a g5 hp proliant server will i lose the raid configuration? * +

sonicbom 26.12.10 - 06:11pm
I guess no. It won't work as both will have diff h/w config. Also o's installed on lower version cant boot on higher version hardware but o's installed on higher version hardware can run on lower version hardware. As per my experience company employees backup operator for important server machine's. And what's the use those policies which prohibit doing backup *
