they also update software contained within windows that is necessary for programs to run, eg. net framework and drivers, without them the programs wont work corectly leaving you with a system that is next to useless * +

i have my windows update disabled and haven't got a single one but what came on my o/s install disk. a useful and secure system doesn't need a constant stream of patches don't you think? lol my advice: disable auto update, when and if you get some error,do some short web search, you will easily find the dependency thats missing. download from trusted location, enjoy. the only 'update' i ever needed was dx and vcredist and i don't use dot net app because imo,dot net is cr*p. so,thats that. * +

Let me share my experience...m using original windows frm d past 10 yrs. From WinXP then Vista n currently Win 7 Pre. And I never update it as I never need of tht n I dnt face any single issue vid my PC or in lappy. D fact is microsoft guys issues equal type updates 4 diff. Types of PCs n Laptops tht smtimes cause drivers or othr hardware incompatibility. So unless u r adviced by ur hardware vender, try 2 avoid these as further u may nt face any problms if u dnt dnload them :) *
