low level is just a basic wipe..... higher levels writes over the drive many times normally with 1's and 0's, the higher the level the more times it does it, the theory behind it is to render what ever was on the drive becomes harder to recover * +

Low level would be just erasing the directory as in FAT , file allocation table . FAT32 is just the 32 bit version . Advanced is NTFS . * +

wrong ... so very wrong, they are FILE SYSTEMS... and have nothing what so ever to do with 'what is formating' they are types of file system used to store data AFTER a drive has been wiped * +
