My mate has an old p4 socket 438 and 1gig ram. His computer is infected and really slow. Will win7 ultimate without aero work better than xp sp2 after black viper's service tweaks? * +

Better to stay with XP. Tell him to install the SP3 too.

You can try windows 7 basic ram is enough,but its better to stay with xp * +

Xp needs just 256mb ram and its a better choice for old rigs.. * +

xp will even run on 128mb infact the first new laptop I bought in 2002 from my local dixons store actually came with 128mb ram. although you do get memory low warnings sometimes with that amount lol * +

windows 7 will run on 512mb but I would say ideally a minimum of 1gb to be comfortable. thats allways been the problem with old computers they never had much ram, just as well memory is cheap then. * +
