Too much compression can lead to redundancy. As in uncompression/handling requirements becoming unnecessarily high compared to the benefit of the compression. Just sayin' hmm2 * +

u need to understand compression ratio for you to choose best program for compression, I used a utility called ARJ for years at work, try WinMerge its powerful best for companies support standalone extraction like winrar bt go for opensource much safer * +

''Ultra'' compressed SOLID Archives with lots of individual files and large dictionary size are made by the devil himself. The compression ratio can be pathetic per file, but trying to extract a single file causes the entire archive to be processed, every time. And the compressability of files varies greatly... For example (compressed) media files do not compress very well while disc images do. * +

After compresson, it is advised to always run the ''test archive'' option of whatever compression utility u use... Coz while using the high/ultra mode, in most cases it corrupts some of the archived files.... This could be a disaster if u delete the original files without checking the new archive... *
