looking for a cheap laptop for my sister. she will only have intel but iam confused by intels range of budget mobile cpus............I see intel pentium dual core b9460, p6200 and other pentium dual cores starting with T. why are there so many different versions and does anybody know which one out of these performs best? * +

I also see dual core celeron but iam told the pentium range is slightly better is this true? cos with only a small price gap may as well go for pentium rather than celeron if they have a slight edge * +

The Celerons are bottom of the range. The pentiums are slightly faster. The latest pentium mobile processors are the B940, B950 and B960. The 960 is fastest but the gap between them is small and meaningless at this level really. The 'P' prefixed processors are a generation older and therefore slower than the 'B' labelled models. * +

cheers for that with so many different ones out there for one that knows very little its a tad confusing. gone are the days when the only difference was speed in megahertz i guess?! * +

Yep. It is confusing for most people even I dont always keep track of every new CPU model there are a lot of variants but Celeron is always budget bottom end, the pentium brand is above that now, while the higher end stuff are i3, i5 or i7 * +
