How can I edit or add items in context menu guys.... Found many 3rd party softs but all of them are useless as they just offer deleting items or adding new commands under another submenu... But I want to add and edit the items... * +

To be more specific, I want to add some items like ''open with ***'' for different file types... For example, when I was using XP there was an option in jpg files as ''Edit with Photoshop''.... But now with win7, for some unknown reasons that option doesn't show... I've tried some registry editings according to this tutorial http://bit.ly/GS8wJb but it never worked... * +

how extensions in windows work: stored under hive HKCR in a form of keys starting with dots, like .jpg. these keys, under their default value may contain a string like jpegfile that instructs the system to search further information in the same named key. so you are looking for that key. the default value of this key, jpegfile in this case, will provide extension description, how you will see it in explorer. relevent subkeys are shell, which deals with context menu and DefaultIcon which contains info * +

information about where should the system look for the icon to assign to this file group. shell subkey stores more subkeys, each of them representing a context menu entry. in the example on link above, you have a key name Open in CS2 which may be the problem. rename the key simply to Edit and change the default value to Open in CS2,edit or whatever else you want. to enable hotkeys on letters, add an amphersand before that letter. you may also want to make sure .jpg key has a default value jpegfile * +

Finaly sorted it out.... For some strange reasons, the jpg extension was not showing any change in context menu even after tweaking the registry... In agony, I deleted the .jpg extension and its master key jpegfile from registry... Then recreated the keys with the help of ContextEdit... Its working fine now... And in this process I've found out the way of adding my own extension specific context menu items... Thanks edit.or, your hints helped a lot... * +

i'm glad. you should also know that you can bind multiple keys to a single group. this should simplify the registry by far. example,if you want all your image files to have the same context menu, you can create a key like GraphicsFiles (or anything you wish really),delete all image extensions and recreate them as empty keys. then set each empty key default value to point to GraphicsFiles (or whatever your key is). and this key would then be responsible for the context menu of all extensions * +
