I installed windows 7 ultimate on my newly aquired dell xps raid system recently after moving my 1tb hard drive from my old system. to avoid confusion I disconnected the additional drives of which there were 2 set up in raid and one pata drive. I installed my 1tb hd into one of the spare raid sata bays hoping that windows would see this as the main boot drive since I had disconnected the others. * +

I planned to reconnect them once windows was installed. before I began the installation I checked system setup to ensure it had detected the hd which it had shown as the correct capacity. once I began the windows installation I was surprised to see that windows was showing the 1tb drive as two partitions. when I last installed windows xp on another system I remember I deleted one partition in order to make one so I did the same here with windows 7 * +

however now win 7 is installed all I see in computer is one partition of 500gb. so my question is whats happened to the other half? could it be that the raid setup thinks the 1tb is infact two seperate drives? could it also be that this is the only way my computer will work with larger drives or was it because I deleted the partition and therefore made it unavailable, where the other half is concerned? * +

if this is the only way my system can work with larger drives then I can live with 2 partitions but how do I recover my 2nd partition? does this mean I may have to start again and reinstall windows 7? or is there a way of rectifying this in setup or within windows itself? any help would be appreciated lol cos iam lost * +

once again iam installing windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and please dont anyone say you cant get ultimate in 32 bit cos I have it lol (the system has two raid bays allowing the installation of 4 drives. I disconnected the two and installed the 1tb drive into the empty raid bay so there isnt another hd in that bay with the 1tb, its entirely on its own) * +

my mate said it can either be resolved in disk mangement or by switching the raid off in system setup or bios is he right? * +

Start, type 'create and format hard disk partitions', hit enter, then have a look at your disk drives and see what the problem is. If you aren't sure, take a screenshot and post it here. * +

If I have understood what you have posted, you need to right click on the drive in Disk Managment and extend it. * +
