yeah its sonys new slogan, but more to the point I recently purchased a sony vaio core i3 laptop on the 6th of march 2012 from comet a week after purchase I wrote some files to a dvd-rw disc which worked fine. this week ive been trying to write all manner of files to a number of different dvd writable discs including dvd-rw without success. infact all I get is errors when doing so............. * +

after trying various different writing software including the built in windows 7 software I finally gave up and contacted the guys that make, uhh make believe come true. when I informed the guy my laptop played dvd films ok he asked me to do download a sony update which turned out to be not compatible with my optical drive. I was then told to do a sony system recovery which restored the computer to factory conditions. * +

however this made no difference as the same problem persisted. he then told me my dvd-rw drive had two lasers, one for reading and one for writing and he suspected the writing lens was defective. funny I only thought blue ray drives had 2 lasers? one for dvd and one for hd blue ray. and I managed to confirm I was right after contacting various laptop repair companies. * +

ok so he was therefore talking out his arse? either that or he was living in a world of make believe?! Iam not sure which. I should also add that comet are unwilling to give me a new replacement claiming that is something sony have to authorise even though its only 5 to 6 weeks old. after contacting trading standards they confirmed I must accept a repair as any small courts claim would class me as being unfair to the retailer. sucks doesnt it? * +

although out of the service centres I spoke to they all insist its a software issue because if the drive is reading discs then it should be able to write when using compatible software? although one centre thought the drive may not be getting hot enough to burn what do you think about this any ideas folks? the only thing that I dont like about sending items off is that they nearly allways come back damaged. although it seems I may have no choice oin the matter. * +

if I must send it off then I plan to get a member of comet staff to inspect the laptop to confirm its in mint condition prior to sending it and get them to write a written declariation to that effect and sign it. then if it comes back damaged I have a case, sound idea? because otherwise it could be just my word against theirs if it were to become damaged giving me no legal standing whatsoever. what do you think? any help or thoughts are appreciated. * +

as far as i know dvd writers only have 1 laser never known any to have 2. british law says you are only entitled to refund or replacement within 28 days iam certain thats correct? regarding getting comet staff to sign a written note saying its in as new condition would they be prepared to do that? I cant be sure on that although I see no reason why not. * +

electrical retailers are known for passing the buck by asking customers to phone the manufacturer. the contract is between the customer and the store not between the customer and the maker of the product. the harsh reality is once they have had your money they dont want to know. infact customers with faulty goods are just an annoyance and nothing else. * +
