If it is movies you want, a standalone would suit you well. If you want to play video games with some additional features, PS3. Then again, if you want to play games, I'd recommend getting a cheap bplayer and a Xbox 360 over a PS3. * +

the ps3 will offer more blue ray features and is more likely to be compatible with future extras thanks to software updates, but bear in mind the drive on an average 2nd hand ps3 has probably seen a lot of use cos its doing 2 jobs with games and films. * +

yes you can buy a sony bluetooth remote or a third party infa-red remote (where the latter is concerned it will come with an infa-red usb adaptor) *
