must phones these days you just type in the email and password and it sets it all up for you, if its an online email like Google gmail or yahoo etc you need to go on the email website i.e Google account and tick the box to activate pops and with Google activate imap also * +

Are you trying to set up a smpt or pop3 email account? example: yahoo mail is smpt ; thisguy@c0x.net would be a pop3. If it is smpt, all you need is the email address and password . If it is a pop3 account, you would need to set it up just like on a pc, your ISP customer support should be able to help you do that. *
