today i thought to play with some softwares for a change and something went wrong then had to reinstall windows to bring pc back to life then i noticed i lost all my bookmarks from firefox which are very inportent i lost all my txt files which i sticked on desktop and game progress which is not so inportent,now question is what should i do to prepare for such situation in feature or what will u do if u were on my place ...i am damm upset and now .... * +

Use the Sync function in Firefox, and either backup (which you should really do anyway) important files, or create a separate partition on your HDD so that the OS and important data are not on the same partition. * +

move firefox to a non system drive. move firefox profile folder from application data on system drive to that non system drive in firefox directory,in folder profile. rename your profile folder to your username or anything you think its ok. if you start firefox now,you will get a message 'firefox is already running but not responding...'. instead,you need to start firefox with a special command line switch -ProfileManager. you can create a shortcut to firefox with this switch or a batch file. * +

batch file is better cause it can be made independent of directory unlike shortcut which if folder is moved,it will lose the target cause it relies on absolute path.. anyway,in profile manager window,delete your profile and create a new one then point firefox to your moved profile folder. confirm and exit and now, when you start firefox,all your settings will be there and all new configuration will be saved to a non system directory in firefox folder. firefox is about portable and if the system * +

and if the system crash,your bookmarks are safe. unless there is a hard drive failiure.. you can backup your bookmarks easily if you are that scared,i think its the file places.sqlite . as for other programs,install them anywhere you want,then move them around anywhere you want,most will not complain. i keep all my relevent programs and files on a non system partition. you don't have to use system my music,my documents,etc at all. extra bonus,no software will write whatever it pleases to in you * +
