See, thats what wireless keyboards are for too, these things you can link to a tablet. 2 years ago, your only realistic choice for a fast slick tablet was an ipad. But they cost an absolute bomb and were closed platform. Now you can get a quality tablet for under 200 quid on android which has matured a lot with the hardware. Microsoft can respond though, with Win8, force SSDs to be standard in netbooks, then intel would see a better market for quick slick netbooks. Right now they are weaker because of the windows licensing fees and advance of tablets * +

microsoft will certainly respond but past trends have shown windows tablets running desktop operating systems like for example windows 7 tablets. currys stopped selling the few win 7 tablets they had for two reasons, they were too expensive and only had small hard drives of around 30 or 20gb. now that would be more than ample for android obviously but its not much use for a desktop operating system like windows.if microsoft want to gain any popularity in the tablet market they either need to introduce tablets running windows phone 8 or introduce another lightweight platform just for tablets. * +

android is ideally suited for small devices because its designed around them. windows 7 isnt as obvious as it may sound. but what about windows 8? they introduced metro for touch screen devices so it seems win 8 is doubling as a desktop and tablet operating system? is win 8 honestly light weight enough for tablets or is this going to be just another windows 7 tablet saga being doomed to failure? * +

you see the way I see it is that a desktop operating is for a desktop or laptop and mobile platforms are for small devices designed with them in mind. I think its just not practicle for a desktop O.S to double as a tablet O.S it just doesnt work. consumers didnt want to pay the high price for win 7 tablets (some were even more expensive than the ipad) and if microsoft do it again with windows 8 the end result could be the same even if win 8 is tad lighter than win 7. *
