I have a 5year old 1.66c2d with 2gig ram and a 5400rpm 80gig HD running windows XP pro. Am thinking of adding another gig or ram and a 7200rpm HD and use adaptor to use my 80gig as 2nd HD in CD drive slot which is ide. * +

I am running Photoshop at the moment and other photo editing appz. am thinking of using the 80gig as a scratch disc. also planning to move to Win7. how much of improvement shud I expect with this or wil performance decrease? * +

If you want to extend the life, keep it away from all liquids including that cup of coffee and/or soda, clean dust frequently and turn it off when not in use. Another tip is to unplug it when it is done charging, that means do not let it charge overnight. * +

Thanks. Yeah I did think about processor but I think the cost wil b too high for a machine this age. I just wanna extend its life by another 2yrs. Am thinking a new 500gb hd won't go to waste cos I can always use it as external later and ram is cheap. Wat am wondering is how well will the 80gig perform as IDE compared to sata. * +

also my present GPU works fine with features I use in PS etc. I will build a proper high performance machine later wen I start serious video editing. *
