The only programs in the Startup folder are Dell Dock and WinZip Quick Pick. This sound problem has occured with a lot of owners of Dell Inspiron's so there seems to be a specific reason why it happens, which I don't think is due to the amount of programs running. * +

0bviously faulty ram.....didn't do it, and now it does.....remove the ram, and replace it carefully....if its more than one module try them one at a time......google memory leak....... * +

The Dell inspiron series is full of cr*p with sound drivers, but only in win xp.......Vista and win7 should be fine...... *
