Does IDE cables come in different speeds allowing faster disk access? Bought some of a guy today and he said they were the fastest made? I've been around PC's a while but never heard of this?? * +

IDE really? Thats some slow as* speed right there. We are in an age of 6GBps SATA. But at the end of the day depends on your motherboards chipset to determine the speeds * +

ok they do say gold ones conduct the power better and have less interference, but thats only the case of hdmi, audio, scart leads etc * +

ata has two speeds, 100mhz and 133mhz. it is down to the chipset as previously stated. you will see no improved by using a different cable * +

you get 40pin and 80pin cables, ata66 is the 40pin. u can get up to ata133 with the 80pin. I don't know the transfer speed but I think its like 133mbps, compare to 6gbps with the sata controllers * +

whatever anyone may tell you there isn't a dramatic difference in speed between ide and sata where mechanical hard drives are concerned. the real reason behind creating sata was the better connection. the average user wouldn't even notice the difference in speed and that's what matters. * +
