I have a new Sony Vaio. Twice now, it has black screened when the battery has run out. First time this happened, I put an xbox game in the disc drive and the screen started working again. This time, no matter what I try, the screen stays black.There is no cursor showing, and the screen is completely black. I've tried taking out the battery, holding the power-on button, etc etc. I've hooked it up to a different monitor and pressed the relevant F keys, and still Black.One thing I do notice, is t * +

You need to tell us which model it is and the operating system you're running. It could be a problem with the graphics driver. Did you by any chance install an Nvidia driver any time recently? I ask because I had a Vaio (F series i7 with an Nvidia GT425m) and at a certain point all new Nvidia drivers would cause my laptop to boot to a black screen. It would black screen as soon as Windows loaded the driver. Hooking the laptop up to a TV via HDMI and then unplugging it would fix the problem. * +

Anyway, do you get any picture whatsoever when you first power the laptop on? If you do then you need to boot into safe mode. Try tapping F8 at boot or holding down the 'Assist' button while the laptop is turned off, that is if you have an assist button. * +

Thanks Newt.. Not sure of the model without looking (I'm not near it now) It's running Windows 8 .. But I'd already tried your mentioned fixes and no joy. Hadn't installed that driver either. * +
