@clank...yes, EDGE was developed as an interim technology before 3G was widely available. EDGE data speeds are slightly slower than 3G...around 386k's * +

The speeds that you mentioned...over wat service are these? Since edge has a max of 384kbps and lots of people say 3g speeds go into mbps, are these on the hscsd equivalent of 3g? * +

@clank: Current 3G networks won't be able to attain speeds of 1mb/s without an HSDPA upgrade. Currently some networks are testing it. I think they've got it operational in South Korea. *
