Subject: Dell Inspiron 1545 sound stutter

How can the machine be too slow when this didn't use to happen? I've read the long thread on the Dell support forum and most suggestions say either roll back the Intel SATA AHCI Controller in Device Manager or disable Intel Matrix Storage Event Monitor. None of that works though, as the roll back button is greyed out for a start.
