FIC Neo1973

Linux users and open-source fanatics out there will get a kick out of this phone. Introducing the Neo1973 (AKA FIC-GTA001) from FIC, a quad-band GSM/GPRS mobile phone co-designed by the Chinese Government as a Windows-based Personal Handy Phone product that utilizes the open-source OpenMoKo platform.
The Neo1973 possesses a 2.8 inch LCD ultra-high resolution touchscreen display. It has 128 MB of ram, 64 MB of built in Flash memory, as well as a bundled 64 MB MicroSD card. Based on a Samsung S3C2410 SoC app processor, it is powered by an ARM9 core. The unit also has an A-GPS system, enabling the user to creat wonderful high resolution maps.
Chargeable via USB connection, the Neo1973 can also be used as a router to connect a PC to the internet. OpenMoKo software includes the following applications: - Dialer - Unified SynchML-enabled email/text messaging client - Phonebook - Media player
Other applications available via feeds, including FIC certified apps as well as from other sources.
Those who prefer a Microsoft OS have the option to use Windows Mobile on their Neo1973. A follow-up model is expected to have WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities.
While not yet widely available, 500 of the Neo1973s will be arriving in Mid-December to test the waters. General availability will hopefully be achieved by January, selling from FIC with the price of USD350 USD.
